Being selected to be part of a Smarter Cities Challenge is a great privilege and an opportunity to make a contribution to a community which can be in any part of the world. As a native Australian, currently working in IBM Headquarters in New York, an early highlight was being chosen to support Ballarat which is a rural city in Australia which has played such an important role in my national history. On route to our challenge starting today – I had the opportunity to spend a few days with my family in the Gold Coast Hinterland in Queensland in the north of Australia. The beautiful views across the mountains, out to the beaches and having a front yard full of Kangaroos each morning was such an amazing way to acclimatise to the timezone and culture! Lots of Australian coffee and vegemite on toast is also a welcome treat associated with being back at home!
