Understanding South Africa’s History

Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa

On August 9, the team gained a better understanding of South Africa’s history with visits to the Apartheid Museum, the Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum , Mandela House and Soweto area.  We all came away enriched and moved.  For some of us, we remembered the struggle as it was reported in the world’s news media and for others we had learned about it in school.  It was all brought life by seeing the sites and hearing the story told first hand in written accounts and through video clips of eyewitnesses.  A highlight, was serendipitously meeting Nelson Mandela’s daughter, Zindzi Mandela, at an event adjacent to the Mandela House in Soweto here she lived as a young girl.
