The team “Smart in Paradise”, which is our team slogan – being in Valparaíso, Chile for our Smarter Cities Challenge -, is “ready to go”. We all arrived savely last Thursday and our formal kick off will be on Monday (tomorrow).
However, since we spent our first day in Santiago de Chile (capital), we already had the chance to meet the countries ministry of transportation on Friday, which is the primary stake holder of our project.
It was a good opportunity for us to get some insight about our clients expectation. Gloria Hutt (Vice Minister of Transportation; front, middle) was with us for 2 hours, so we had a very good dialogue and some 1st hand information around the challenge we are going to work on: Transportation in Greater Valparaíso.
As we also talked about traffic control centers, Gloria invited us to visit the centers of Santiago de Chile same day.
We thankfully accepted this offer, since it was certainly the best chance to learn about Chile’s todays standards. We visited 3 centers and the teams were very supportive to answer all of our questions and they were proud to share their todays capabilities with us.
In the afternoon we had a meeting with our local IBM Chile colleagues, inlcuding some 1:1 Mentoring sessions, with some top talents from IBM Chile.
A very exciting start and we are looking forward for the formal project start tomorrow morning.
