Needing a little break from a week of hard work and an even harder week coming up, we did a little sightseeing today and took the train to Tsurugajo Castle, a replica of a traditional Japanese castle in the city of Aizuwakamatsu, about 90 minutes from our hotel. More impressive than the castle itself were the cherry blossoms in full bloom and the spectacular views along the walk and from the very top of the castle. Despite the crowds that rivaled Times Square at Christmas time, it was as really fun day.
Walking through the small town back and forth to the train was a great part of the experience as well, and of course, we couldn’t pass up a stop at a sake brewery.
It was back to Fukushima City for dinner at a sushi restaurant where the dishes come around on a conveyor belt and you take the dishes you want. Different color dishes represents different prices. When it’s time to pay, the waitress simply counts up your plates and hands you your bill.
