Peach Tree Trimming

As planned we took to the field this morning to try our hand at peach tree trimming. The process Trimming peachesis entirely manual and at first takes some additional thought when selecting which buds to remove. After a quick introduction by a local farmer and his wife, with interpretation by Miho-san of course, we paused for a brief snack before starting. The farmers wife prepared a delicious tray of peaches she’d canned and froze from last years harvest.

Well fed, we spent the next couple hours thinning buds from a few Peach trees. I think we did ok when you consider the farmer said they typically can only prune five per day. Others on the team thought he was probably hoping we’d stop soon lest he have a sub-optimal harvest in July.
